Currently Scheduled Events
Vessel Safety Checks (VSCs) will be conducted by Squadron Vessel Examiners to review all required and recommended safety equipment. The VSC is a free, voluntary, non-enforcement activity to verify that the vessel and equipment meet current US Coast Guard requirements as of the date of the exam. Vessels meeting all standards will be awarded a decal indicating this fact.
The VSC exam provides an excellent opportunity for the examiners to provide updated information from the US Coast Guard regarding changes to the labelling for life jackets, fire extinguishers, as well as Emergency Cutoff Switches (ECOS), and to discuss boating safety, emergencies, as well as more formal classroom, virtual, and on-the-water educational opportunities provided by America's Boating Club® (United States Power Squadrons®).
Due to the pandemic, special precautions will be taken with all Examiners wearing masks and using hand sanitizer and/or gloves during the examinations. Participating boaters requesting an exam will be required to wear a mask at all times. It is also highly recommended that only the skipper – no crew or family – be aboard during the VSC exam.
Boaters wishing to register prior to the event listed or to indicate a time preference can email vsc@bpsd9.org.
